Document Management - [10:01 AM]

Steven's been trying to solve a nasty cross-platform document sharing problem. I'm guessing these resulting documents need to been seen not only on your intranet but also the extranet, right? You may want to look into something like Documentum. When I worked on Frame's DMS they were our biggest competitor and they were cross platform. I'm not exactly sure what their story is today, but it may be worth a look.

This problem has probably been solved a gazillion times, someone please share your experiences with Steven. If there's not an acceptable solution to this problem I'll eat my hat!

I'm also curious to know what causes SharePoint to not work on a UNIX box? I was under the impression everything was done on the back end? (I'm probably WRONG about this since I don't know squat about the architecture, maybe Tommy can point us in the right direction?)

Mornin' Y'All - [9:09 AM]

Well Kim is feeling MUCH better! It's hard to believe what a difference 24 hours makes. She hopped right out of bed this morning and even scooted off to work! If the surgery had been done the old way she'd probably still be laid up. Don't get me wrong she's still sore and has pain but it must be bearable for her to get up and wonder around like she is. Thanks to everyone for the well wishes and most of all for your prayers.

It's hard to believe Thanksgiving is tomorrow. It seems like only yesterday it was Halloween. Time flies, and it goes by even faster the older you get. Sad but true. I'm hoping Christmas doesn't sneak up on us like this. It's my favorite time of the year and I want to enjoy each day leading up to it and including it! We're having Thanksgiving with my family this year, 36 of us apparently, at 1:00 then we're off to see Kim's mom for dinner at 5:00. It's going to be a wonderful time, I just know it. The only bummer of my mom's gathering is NO TV! That's right, we can't watch football! There has to be some kind of law against that, right?

I'd like to say a quick congratulations to the Exeter Girls Volleyball team. They lost the state championship playoff game last night but they had a terrific season, which included a Valley Championship! Way to go girls!

Brick wall indeed! - [12:15 PM]

Steven Vore: "I can't be the first webhead to run into this wall of proprietary documents." - At this point you may want to consider SharePoint Portal Server, or Team Services. We use this software for our intranet site and it's quite good as a front-end to proprietary formats. We store Word docs as Word docs or as Word HTML and the same with Excel, and of course we save Visio files as XML and view them with our our viewer.

At first I thought this software stunk but the more we used it the more I liked it. Now it's the first place I go when looking for information on an area I need to learn more about. I also think it'll get MUCH better in the next release. It's worth a look in my humble opinion, especially if you already have an Enterprise Licensing agreement.

Sick wifie... - [9:14 AM]

Yesterday Kim had her gallbladder removed. It's the end of two long years of poking and prodding. She's been to more than a couple of doctors and we finally found one that knew what was going on. He discovered that her gallbladder was only functioning at 25% of it's normal capacity. DOH! So yesterday Doc's ripped that dude out!

Kim is doing quite well, but I'm staying home again today to help her out. Back in the office tomorrow.
