Managed C++ Extension - [10:18 AM]

MSDN: "C++/CLI introduces the concept of a handle to distinguish a CLR object reference from a C++ pointer. By not overloading the C++ pointer, a lot of ambiguity is removed from the language." - Nice, I truly mean that. If you're writing managed C++ for a living, or mixed-mode C++, I think you'll appreciate this extension to the language, if you a purist then you'll hate it, and that's ok too.

Below is an example of the new extension. It's a managed heap allocation that doesn't overload the new keyword, and doesn't use that goofy looking prefix __gc, also note the gcnew keyword and the top hat(^) used in the declaration which should allow you to instantly pick out the type you're working with. I like it.

// allocated on the managed heap
IO::MemoryStream^ heapObject = gcnew IO::MemoryStream;

'Softie speak - [8:21 AM]

joe version='1.0': "These people are nuts (I'm including myself in this broad categorization, too, btw). Microsofties definitely utilize a different vocabulary than normal human beings." - It is very funny to hear. Early on I found myself scratching my head thinking 'What the heck does that really mean?' Eventually you learn to understand it. In fact some of it is pretty common speak in the industry, I think? I know some of the terms Joe mentions were used at Visio before we became Microsoft owned. The one thing I absolutely refused to do while there was refer to people by their e-mail addresses.

E.G. 'Just shoot mail to BillG.'

Hated that. Call folks by their name, then give their e-mail address.

Roll film!This weeks movie line was an obvious choice. Kim keeps saying one of these lines, over and over and over, because I started supplementing my diet with Protein shakes.

Here's the line...

Actor #1: Doug, once again, off the juice.
Actor #2: It'th not juithe. It'th a protein thake.

Ok, quick, what movie! Send your guesses here.
