Merry Christmas World! - [9:46 AM]

Merry Christmas!

An angel of the Lord appeared to them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were terrified. But the angel said to them, "Do not be afraid. I bring you good news of great joy that will be for all the people. Today in the town of David a Savior has been born to you; he is Christ the Lord. This will be a sign to you: You will find a baby wrapped in cloths and lying in a manger." - Luke 2:9-12

Update, debugging web apps - [9:32 AM]

Here's the drill. What I discovered yesterday while frustrated enough to physically throw my laptop out the nearest window.

1) Start debugger.
2) Wait until the process load starts, then HANGS.
3) Open Task Manager.
4) KILL aspnet_wp.exe.
5) New aspnet_wp.exe starts.
6) Process continues to load in debugger.

ICK! I had this problem while working at Paramount. I never did figure out the real fix for it. This will work for a couple of debugging sessions, then you get to reboot the machine. Sigh...

Movie line of the week - [9:19 AM]

Cut, cut, cut!
This movie line came from my oldest daughter this morning. I wanted to keep it in the Christmas spirit of course and I've already used lines from every traditional Christmas movie known to man.

This line comes from a film with a wonderful message, sorta like a modern day It's a Wonderful Life

Actor #1: They did a pretty good job.
Actor #2: Who did?
Actor #1: The aliens, in the mothership. You look just like him.

Ok, quick, what movie! Send your guesses here.

Debugging Web Apps - [4:41 PM]

Frustration is what I'm experiencing right now. I've been working on a web app for the past couple of days and today I'm having issues attempting to debug it. I start to debug, the process loads in the debugger, I see aspnet_wp.exe load, then nothing.

The ONE thing that's changed on this box that I'm aware of is a new installation of Web Matrix. Since that installation I've had the problem.

Another thing that happens is devenv.exe hanging around in memory even after exiting. Each time I start a new browser and attempt to use the app, not debugging, it launches another aspnet_wp.exe. What the heck gives?

So, anyone have the slightest clue what would cause this behavior?

U.K. Jobs? - [5:32 PM]

Question: How hard is it for a Yank to get a job in the U.K?

I'd really like to know the answer to that question. Kim and I have long talked about the possibility of moving to Ireland, England, or even Scotland. We've even discussed the idea of moving to Italy.

So how hard is it to find work there, and be allow to shack up long term?
