FeedDemon feature request - [6:49 PM]

FeedDemon and Outlook married.Nick, I love FeedDemon, I really do, but... I'd like it to live inside Outlook. I'm not saying it shouldn't be hosted inside its own frame as well but it would be so nice to have it run inside Outlook. I'm looking for complete integration of my daily information drivers; Outlook, FeedDemon, and Blogger. Since Outlook has an extensibility model I think you could do it with a bit of tweaking to your current FeedDemon code base.

Essentially I'm looking for the news item list and newspaper views to live where Outlook's email items and preview live, it's a match made in heaven! I'm not an Outlook bar user, I use the treeview, but you could place the FeedDemon channel bar in the Outlook bar and just add your own folder to the treeview view.

I've created a picture of the merged Outlook/FeedDemon combo.

I think it looks great!

JK Rowling to read HBP - [5:48 PM]

Fawkes the PhoenixHPANA: "Harry Potter author JK Rowling will read from her latest book, Half-Blood Prince, at the stroke of midnight July 16, the book's release date, in Edinburgh Castle." - Wow! How does a mere mortal such as myself get an invite to something like that? I'd love to hear JK Rowling read Harry Potter and The Half-Blood Price.

Also note it's supposed to be broadcast around the world, neat.

My HP Pavilion zd7010us - [5:35 PM]

Kim and I purchased our lovely HP Pavilion zd7010us about a year-and-a-half ago and have absolutely fallen in love with it. Lately our box has developed a power problem. For some reason the power cord doesn't quite make contact as it should and our battery doesn't re-charge. Not that it's completely dead yet, I'm writing this post from the computer in question, but you have to have the right 'touch' to get it to work properly.

Any zd7000 series users experience this same problem? Steven, any ideas?

Movie line of the week answer - [10:57 AM]

I don't know what Moose is thinking these days? For the longest time he was completely happy being the runner up, but for the past two weeks he's decided he'd like to win, what's up with that?

Congratulations Moose.

The correct answer is...

Thanks for playing!

Nautilus - [7:45 PM]

I've been living in a Linux world for quite a while now and I'm still not overly thrilled with it. I've mentioned I like KDB better than Gnome but there are two applications on Linux I'm very pleased with. The first is the browser I'm using to compose this post, Firefox. No surprise there, it's been solid for quite a while, and I just cannot use a browser without tabs! DOH! Anywho, the other application I've been completely happy with is Nautilus, yes Nautilus, the desktop 'browser' if you will created by now defunct Eazel(don't visit that domain, it's all icky now).

Too bad those guys went belly up, they could build product.

Ex-Visio'ite report - [9:00 AM]

I heard from another ex-Visio'ite this morning, Craig Hobbs was one of three curmudgeon's at Visio. Yes, I liked our resident curmudgeon's they kept the place interesting, not to mention they are fantastic coders.

Craig's new gig is called Copasetic Software, their product is called WebAction, take a look you might find it useful.

Movie line of the week - [8:51 AM]

Watchin' it on the big screen!Yep, it's Thursday, hard to believe it's already here. It's easy to tell when I'm having a good time at work because the weeks fly by. Either that or I have a deadline approaching.

Anywho, here we go, do you have what it takes to guess?

Actor #1: Tell me again Harry, why did I take this job?
Actor #2: Oh come on, thirty more years of this, you get a tiny pension and a cheap gold watch.
Actor #1: Cool.

Ok, quick, what movie! Send your guesses here.

Stick to your guns! - [12:03 PM]

ESPN: "'I know I'm a top player in the game, and my current contract doesn't justify that,' Owens had said after hiring Rosenhaus." - Terrell Owens isn't very bright in my humble opinion. It's about time owners stand up to this sort of garbage, the man signed his name to a seven year deal worth $49 million and wants to renegotiate after one year? That's plain wrong. It's guys like Owens that drive ticket prices through the roof. I say let him go play for someone else, or sit and watch without pay.

Porting VB6 applications to REALBasic - [9:40 AM]

REALBasic: "Porting VB Applications to Linux and Mac OS X: A how-to guide for Visual Basic developers" - Wow! This could be an awesome choice for Classic VB'ers. This reminds me of the late 80's when Ashton-Tate sold to Borland and there was a lot of uncertainty around the database community. At the time you had three killer choices for Dbase; Ashton-Tate(Dbase), Nantucket(Clipper), and Fox Software(FoxPro). Anywho, if you write VB code for a living this may be a great choice for supporting your existing code base, and you may even benefit from their cross-platform support. The other nice benefit of using REAL is it's not dependent on COM, of course Borland's Delphi also comes to mind.

Roy and Stanley get serious - [2:15 PM]

Tiggers are wonderful things!SaveDisney.com: "Roy Disney, Stanley Gold Sue The Walt Disney Company, Certain Directors For Fraud, Breach of Duty of Disclosure Regarding Board's Public Statements About Search for Eisner's Replacement As CEO" - They have my support. I'd really like to see Disney return to its roots, a nice family centric company. I'd like to be greeted with a smile and a kind 'Hello' when I visit the parks, like it used to be. Go Roy and Stanley!
