Note to Joel - [2:00 PM]

Joel on Software: "Open a downtown development center in Pioneer Square and another one South of Market in San Francisco. Then split up the company into lots of small, well-funded startups and give people stock options in their own products, which actually have a fighting chance of growing." - Joel, Microsoft had primo real estate in downtown Seattle after the Visio acquisition, but they moved everyone to Redmond because to them it is the center of the known universe.

I've included a picture for your viewing pleasure. This is from the sixth floor common area around the stairwell.

A question for Mr. Joel, do you allow your employees to telecommute? There's another way to get great folks.

Congratulations Trumba! - [3:34 PM]

Troy Sandal: "I've been remiss in my shameless Trumba blog postings only because work has been so intense over the past few months. However the hard work has paid off and we've finally released Trumba OneCalendar to the world. " - This is the new company founded by two of three Visio founders. It's become a stomping ground for many ex-Visio'ites, all together they're one of the best pool of developers on the planet, no kidding.

Congratulations guys, here's to a great deal of success.

Albus Percival Wulfric Brian Dumbledore - [2:56 PM]

Albus Percival Wulfric Brian DumbledoreMuttleNet [The Burrow]: " I believe Dumbledore will be the Half Blood Prince and play a pivotal role in the second to last book." - Great article for Potter Freaks. Definitely not a person I'd consider to be the Half-Blood Prince.

We'll find out soon enough. I for one will NOT be reading the usual fan sites I visit. After a reading marathon I'm sure I'll emerge from the bedroom with a brain full of new questions for Ms. Rowling.

Is Cringely on crack? - [2:01 PM]

I, Cringely: "Apple and Intel are merging." - I've always loved reading this guy, even when he as just a plain old-time print article. It's definitely worth a read and answers some of the questions I posed last week after the rumors started spreading about Apple switching to Intel.

He spins an interesting story. I for one don't see it happening, but what a huge shock it would send through the computing world. You never know, stranger things have happened.

Why doesn't Intel purchase Microsoft while they're at it? Merge the Windows Kernel with the Apple GUI? Yes, the Windows Kernel is solid, the stuff layered on top has been the security thorn in Microsoft's side. The Windows Kernel is also architected to support multiple presentation layers, or graphical shells. It could be just as interesting a marriage, couldn't it?

So, what if Intel DID buy Apple. Would Microsoft encourage OEM's to purchase AMD, or PowerPC based architectures? What about Sun's SPARC architecture? Microsoft and Sun do, after all, have a newfound alliance...

Then again... This could all turn out to be just what it was announced to be, Apple using Intel chips in future computers and nothing more.

It's sure fun to speculate.

Potter Countdown - [1:23 PM]

Being I'm a complete Harry Potter freak I couldn't resist adding a countdown to the right column.

As far as these sorts of things go this one is particularly well done, not overly intrusive.

Only 33 days until the release of Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Price.

Changing your business - [8:41 AM]

BusinessWeek: "Blogs Will Change Your Business" - Registration required, it's free. I've been meaning to point to this article for a while, it was the cover story back on May 2.

This is something the management at Pelco, and every company, needs to read. Weblogs can be a great channel of communication between you and your customers.
