The New Windows - [9:22 AM]

Microsoft Windows Vista: "...It seamlessly connects you to information, people, and devices that help you get the most out of life." - They have an official name and a site, now they just need to kick it out the door.

Hats off to all those poor souls on a death march to bring us the next version of Windows. Hang in there.

Would I work for Microsoft again? - [9:21 AM]

People ask me all the time if I'd work for Microsoft again. The short answer is Yes, of course I would. I would go to work for them in a heartbeat if I could find the right group to work with, and they'd allow me to work from home here in Exeter, CA. That's not unheard of by the way, Chris Sells works out of his home, it's just not likely to happen in the Microsoft culture.

There are many other companies I'd LOVE to work for, here's a small list.

If I sat and thought about it for a bit longer there would be more. Each of the companies listed above has something very special about their products and people which is attractive to me.

Potter'ing around - [9:02 AM]

Harry Potter, the boy who lived! It's true, I'm just Potter'ing along on the new book. Like I said earlier life is sometimes so busy there's not room for much else. The last six months has been absolutely crazy in the Fahrni household. Anywho, that's neither here nor there. I've managed to read through chapter two of Harry Potter and The Half-Blood Prince and it has me salivating for more.

My wife, God bless her, is reading when she has time so she can officially hand it over to me. I'd put money on her being finished today, she was at page 500 last night when I went to bed. I'm hoping to be through the book before next weekend so we can start listening to the audio book on our trip to the coast.

Maybe I'll find some time this weekend, maybe a couple of hours to barricade myself in our bedroom and read.

Here's the line, from on of my all time favorites, enjoy!

I would rather be with the people of this town than with the finest people in the world.

Ok, quick, what movie! Send your guesses here.

Is Microsoft afraid of Google? - [2:14 PM]

ZDNet: "Opening a new chapter in its rivalry with Google, Microsoft on Tuesday sued the search giant and a former Microsoft executive who has been tapped by Google to run its China operations." - Microsoft really is afraid of Google. I thought folks were off their rocker when they said it, but they really are scared of 'em or they wouldn't risk throwing their name in a bad light over something so silly as an executive jumping ship.

Yeah, yeah, I know he signed a non-compete. How many 'Softies do you think did the same thing with their last company and Microsoft recruited them anyway? That begs the question, has Microsoft ever been sued over a non-compete clause?

Hot, why yes, it is hot. - [1:14 PM]

It's a real scorcher here in the San Joaquin Valley!MSNBC: "A blistering heat wave is being blamed for the deaths of at least 13 people in Phoenix, prompting officials to ask for donations of ice and water bottles for those sweltering without air conditioning." - Yes folks it's hot here in the west. The San Joaquin valley is no exception. We've been running over 105 consistently for at least the last ten days, probably longer. You know it's hot when it's 100 degrees at 8PM. Yowzer.
