Funny, but true - [4:47 PM]

Tiggers are wonderful things!Randy Magruder [via Nick Hodges]: "Management is fed a steady diet of propaganda from both ends. On one end you have these Java/C# guys just dying to re-write the application in a 'real' language and use all the latest toys to do it. Their 'Design Patterns' books are ready, they have Visio UML diagrams ready to roll, and firmly believe that if Microsoft has put it in 'Patterns and Practices', only a complete idiot (such as a Delphi programmer) would dare resist the purifying fire and the march to follow Redmond into whatever abyss it has planned for we mortals." - This guy is funny and makes complete sense all at the same time. Click the link, it's worth a read.

Gratuitous Potter Post - [10:52 PM]

Harry Potter and The Goblet of FireIt's been a while since I've posted about Potter and it's been a while since I've read Harry Potter Prognostications so I spent a few minutes catching up tonight. If you're a Potter freak read through Harry Potter Prognostications, it's brilliant.

I wonder if J.K. Rowling reads that site?

Oil $200+ per barrel? - [10:44 PM]

John Robb: "Be afraid. Be very afraid. That's the message from two of the world's most successful investors on the topic of high oil prices. One of them, Hermitage Capital's Bill Browder, has outlined six scenarios that could take oil up to a downright terrifying $262 a barrel." - Go read that, then read about Exxon reporting record earnings. Kinda makes you sick to your stomach, doesn't it?

Serious Alternative - [10:26 PM]

If you're a Microsoft development tools guy you should take a look at the new Borland Delphi 2006, especially if you're an old-school VB'er.

Too bad they don't offer the Personal Edition of Delphi any longer.

Here's a review from Reg Developer.

IBlogExtension for RawSugar - [8:18 AM]

Since the fine folks at RawSugar decided they'd publish an API I thought I'd take advantage of it. If you use an RSS reader that supports the IBlogExtension interface you can use this plugin.

I've confirmed it works in RssBandit and, thanks to Bill Lazar, it's confirmed to work in SharpReader.

Download the Plugin, in ZIP format.

Please send feedback, Bill's already asked for a field to enter a note to his tag, so I'm adding that. I'll do what I can.

Yer Out! - [7:36 PM]

Visalia Times Delta: "Prosecutors said Martinez, 47, has four prior convictions on federal bank robbery charges out of California dating back to 1979, more than the three felony convictions needed to be subject to California's 'Three Strikes' law, which could result in Martinez receiving a 25-year-to life sentence if convicted." - Don't mess with Exeter.

Interesting Article - [12:49 PM]

NY Times: "But it defies reason and experience to make Sept. 11 the defining influence on our foreign and domestic policy. History suggests that we have faced greater challenges and triumphed, and that overreaction is a greater danger than complacency." - Well worth the read.

Classic VB Still Breathing? - [10:06 AM]

It looks like Classic VB is on a bit more than life-support. There's a new release, VB 9. Even though a lot of folks hate the syntax it has its' fans, not to mention there's a ton of Visual Basic code in use all over the world. It is the new COBOL.

Mike Sax has a few thoughts for Microsoft.

Here's a question for the fine folks at Microsoft. What about releasing Visual Basic into the open source community? If Microsoft ever did something so radical I think half the open source community would probably drop dead from shock.

Are folks still switching to REALbasic? Hey, check out the VB to REALbasic whitepaper.
