HP Customer Service e-mail reply - [11:08 AM]

My reply to HP/Compaq's e-mail regarding my struggle with a Compaq notebook and wireless connectivity on Monday.

We've returned the Compaq in question and purchased a MacBook, problem solved.

HP/Compaq was nice enough to follow up, so I shouldn't be so sarcastic, but the box should've just worked. We haven't actually purchased the MacBook yet, it should happen today. Can't wait to see it!

What a day - [4:40 PM]

I've spent most of the day on the phone with either Compaq or Verizon technical support. Both very helpful, neither could solve the problem. It appears the Presario V2000 and our Westell wireless equipment do not mix. Very strange, like an idiot I thought this kind of stuff was a thing of the past. So it looks like we'll be returning the Presario for a different brand of laptop. Maybe I can convince my wife it should be a Macintosh.

I've had it with PCs - [11:48 AM]

Remind me the next time I want to purchase a new PC to buy a Macintosh. We just purchased a brand new Compaq Presario V2000 for our daughter and I've been fighting with it all morning to get it to connect to the internet. I think they've gone so far out of their way to prevent viruses from attacking they've actually made the machine completely useless. First off I tried to connect to our wireless network, no go, it can't connect. I even changed out our WEP key because I thought I'd forgotten it. The Dell downstairs is working just fine, after switching the key, thank you very much. So I thought I'd at least get the virus definitions and Windows updated so I connected it directly to our switch. It can see the internet long enough for Norton to go through it's checks, but it can't see Windows Update or anything else for that matter. I'm so pissed off I want to chuck this thing out the window and never look at another PC again.

So now I have to contact Compaq/HP and see if they can help me. This is so frustrating I can't even begin to explain it.
