I couldn't agree more - [12:31 PM]

Mini-Microsoft Comments: "And if Ballmer leaves as CEO, who can replace him? I don't see anyone in the company (other than Bill Gates ofcourse) who would be a good replacement. Kevin Turner? I don't think so. I don't want this company to have a Walmart like culture." - If you're not in a technology company you may not understand that comment. I've been on both sides of the fence and I can tell you the tech companies tend to have open, constructive, energetic, and mentally challenging cultures. The good-ole-boys don't get that and tend to want to control everything, which can be distracting. Having said that, Microsoft was one of the open companies I was talking about, Visio was the best, followed by the now defunct Frame.

Oy - [4:24 PM]

James Robertson: "Until I told him I did it in Smalltalk. 'Don't you think it's odd to write a system in a language like that?'" - I've been working in curly brace land for years and the longer I do it the more I'd like to move to a dynamic language like Smalltalk or Ruby. I find it odd that folks would worry about the language a product was developed in, I'd be more worried about reliability, ease of use, and how well it would fit into my present daily workflow. Strange.

At least the Swiss made it - [4:18 PM]

BBC Sports: "Switzerland booked their place in the second round with a gutsy victory in their final Group G game in Hanover." - At least I have someone to cheer for in the second round of the World Cup.

Mom Scoble Memorial Campout? - [8:36 AM]

Robert Scoble: "It's in the middle of nowhere (in Emigrant, MT, which is south of Livingston), closest airport is Bozeman, which is a little more than an hour away. I have four beds, three are already taken, but we can sleep lots more if you bring your own air mattress and bedding. I'll provide beer and wine. The scenery is stunning" - Robert, you should turn this into an annual affair. A getaway for geek families. A place to recharge batteries and have a good time in God's country. I'd LOVE to spend a few days in beautiful Montana and I'm sure my family would as well.

Think about it Robert.

Coke and Mentos - [7:54 PM]

I was perusing Ned Batchelder's posts today and noticed he'd made use of his companies product to create an illustrated guide to the whole Coke and Mentos trick.

Very nice Ned.

Movie line of the week - [12:17 AM]

Watchin' it on the big screen!Ha, bet I caught a few folks off guard with this one! I just noticed it was Thursday morning, and I'm still awake, so I might as well drop a movie line for ya to chew on.

Are you ready?

There are over 550 million firearms in worldwide circulation. That's one firearm for every twelve people on the planet. The only question is: How do we arm the other 11?

Ok, quick, what movie! Send your guesses here.

Oil from chicken guts? - [12:10 AM]

Discover: "The thermal conversion process can take material more plentiful and troublesome than straw—slaughterhouse waste, municipal sewage, old tires, mixed plastics, virtually all the wretched detritus of modern life—and make it something the world needs much more than gold: high-quality oil." - This is a horse worth backing.

Bush, the Antichrist? - [12:02 AM]

Armed Madhouse: "It’s not magic. At $30 a barrel, Oklahoma stripper wells are worth reopening, drilling in the Gulf of Mexico becomes profitable in 3,000 feet of water, Kazakhstan’s crude is worth piping out even with the high cost of transportation and bribes." - If even half of what this guy says is true we're all being taken for a ride.

I think it's time to order his book.

Great news for Delphi and DevCo - [1:29 PM]

Nick Hodges [via Cass McNutt]: "Here I sit, in my brand new office at the Borland (soon to be DevCo) campus, looking out the window at the beautiful hillsides of Scotts Valley, CA. What am I doing here? Well, I'm glad you asked, because I am glad to tell you: I am the new Delphi Product Manager, and I started today." - It couldn't have happened to a nicer fella. Nick has been at the top of Mount Delphi sharing the gospel with anyone passing by. This is a great move for Nick and DevCo. Keep an eye out, I expect to see great things out of the Scotts Valley gang.

Heck, I'd go as far as adding DevCo to the top five places I'd like to work.

What a Fathers day - [1:13 PM]

So I get up this morning feeling a bit groggy and walk into the living room. To my surprise there's a brand new XBox 360 still in the box sitting in front of the dining room table. My reaction "No way!" Yep, it was a fathers day present!

WOW!

Got the Mac - [1:10 PM]

My daughters MacBook arrived earlier in the week. It worked as I'd expect it to work. In fact I knew it had arrived when I received a call asking for the password to our wireless. I didn't have to come home and mess with it, it just worked.

Just as it should be.
