Fog Creek, nice perks - [5:15 PM]

Joel Spolsky: "We're in New York City. We pay well and have great benefits, like free lunch, stock options, Aeron chairs and private offices. You get four weeks of paid vacation and six holidays, health insurance, a dental plan, gym membership, and relocation expenses paid." - Not too shabby aye?

Oh boy... - [4:32 PM]

CNN: " Hezbollah leader scoffs at Israeli offensive" - Oh yeah, that'll make Israel want to cease fire. What a complete nutter.

English, the language of America - [4:15 PM]

CNN: "As part of its stab at immigration reform, the Senate already has voted to declare English the national language." - Personally, I don't have a problem with English being the national language. Plenty of immigrant groups have learned to adapt to their new country, they even learn to speak the language.

So, if you're serious about staying in the United States of America you should learn to speak English, period.

Movie line of the week - [9:51 AM]

Hollywood!
Hint: Today's line comes from a classic.

Ready, set, guess...

Let me put it this way, Mr. Amor. The 9000 series is the most reliable computer ever made. No 9000 computer has ever made a mistake or distorted information. We are all, by any practical definition of the words, foolproof and incapable of error.

Ok, quick, what movie! Send your guesses here.

Little turbaned, bearded men? - [7:54 PM]

The New York Sun: "Rarely have I seen such an uprising, indeed an intifada, against those little turbaned, bearded men across the Muslim landscape as the one that took place last week. The leader of Hezbollah, Sheik Hassan Nasrallah, received a resounding 'no' to pulling 350 million Arabs into a war with Israel on his clerical coattails."

Savage? - [11:34 AM]

CNN: "Lebanese Prime Minister Fouad Siniora on Wednesday called for a cease-fire and denounced Israel as a 'savage war machine' responsible for more than 300 Lebanese deaths." - Here's the deal. If you're in Lebanon and you're helping or harboring terrorists you're going to be a target, civilian or not. I hate seeing non-military folks caught in he middle but you are in the middle of a war zone. Get out while you can, and stop helping Hezbollah.

The irony of the Lebanese Prime Minister's statement is he's going to have to get control of Hezbollah, good luck with that.

On the job perks - [11:23 AM]

CNNMoney: "A nice paycheck, a boss who respects you...those things are fine, but how about some free stuff. Can your company match these?" - Here at Pelco we have a couple of nice perks. Friday morning we get a simple breakfast; breads and fruit. Once a month the company buys us lunch, at the end of the month to be exact, it's called EOM 'round these parts.

Please leave a comment and share your favorite perks, past or present.

Time to move to Colorado? - [10:16 AM]

CNNMoney: "Americans are flocking to places that offer big-city opportunities and amenities -- with a lot more green space and a lot less stress. See the top 10 Great American Towns." - My brother has talked a lot about getting out of California, can't say that I blame him. Follow the link if you're on the hunt for a great place to live.

Wow, I actually agree with Bush - [9:45 AM]

CNN: "Apparently not expecting an open mike to pick up his remarks, Bush told Blair: 'See the irony is what they need to do is get Syria to get Hezbollah to stop doing this s___ and it's over.'" - I couldn't agree more. The man is, after all, human and he's probably tired of the crap, I know I am.

Pour some RawSugar on me - [9:07 AM]

I know RawSugar is a new kid on the block but I'm surprised they're still running as an independent entity. I would think the likes of Google, Microsoft, or Yahoo! would be beating their doors down for the next generation in search. Yes, next generation search. There's a lot of power in user created directories. I use RawSugar for searches from my own web page and its getting better and better, especially with the latest gizmo you can embed right into your site, go ahead and try a search so you can see it.

We could use a RawSugar server right here inside Pelco to help individuals mark places of interest in our ever growing intranet.

Keep it coming guys. I like it more and more each day.

How to destroy America - [11:10 AM]

Uncle SamSnopes.com: "First to destroy America, 'Turn America into a bilingual or multi-lingual and bicultural country. History shows that no nation can survive the tension, conflict, and antagonism of two or more competing languages and cultures.'" - Scary, very relevant, read. I believe America could very easily self destruct. All great nations have fallen, so it would make sense that we'd tear ourselves apart at some point. Keep in mind we have fewer freedoms than at any point in the history of this great nation and read it with an open mind. Of course you don't have to agree with him but I think he has some very valid points.

My wife's grandparents were first generation Americans of German descent. They were NOT allowed to speak German in their household or in public because this was America and they were going to become Americans, embracing the dream of many and the reality of few. I'm not saying we have to forget our heritage but we need to embrace America as an independent nation with its' own culture. Here in California there's a HUGE population that speaks only Spanish and doesn't care to learn English. We cannot allow Spanish to become a second legal language in the United States, or in this state. In some ways we already have. If you know Spanish it's easier to land a job with many state and local agencies, like the school system. Why? Because we accept Spanish as a form of communication in schools. We need to immerse children from other countries in the English language, not gradually teach them. After approximately 90-days a child will begin to speak the language because he/she MUST to survive.

If you are not willing to be an American why move to America? Don't try to turn this country into the place you fled, embrace it and move forward.
