CodeGear .NET based IDE - [3:52 PM]

Duct Tape makes the world go 'round.Nick Hodges: "One key feature of Galileo is that it relies on the .Net Framework. All the versions so far rely on the 1.1 version of the framework, but the forthcoming version will use the .Net 2.0 framework. This fact has caused a certain amount of consternation for some folks, particularly Win32 developers who, for whatever reason, disdain .Net." - I'm not really sure why the absolute hate for .NET? We're using it at Pelco on some new stuff and I think it was a great choice. Them comments on the post are pretty typical, "It's too slow", "You won't be able to port it as easily", etc. Ok, so there are times when the apps are slow, in my experience it's not that bad and as for the apps being less portable I'd say they're probably more portable than their C/C++ counterparts(depending how they were coded). I've seen utility applications written in .NET at Pelco that run on Windows and Linux without modification. Give the CodeGear guys some time. Their IDE will be improved with each release and they're probably able to add features more quickly because of their choice to use .NET and C# over something like C++.

Fixing Iraq, one man's solution - [10:08 AM]

ABCNews: "But a young captain serving in Iraq's violent Al Anbar Province has offered a simple explanation of what the problem was in Iraq and how to solve it. Among his observations is the importance of having a moustache in Iraq." - Checkout the Captain's presentation, it's very simple and full of ideas based on his on the ground experience. Captain Patriquin was no dummy, yes I said was, he was recently killed by and IED. Hopefully his work will not go unnoticed.

Apple is tearing it up - [8:53 AM]

MarketWatch: "Apple's sales for the fiscal year ended in September rose 39% to $19.3 billion, far outpacing the growth of such tech companies as Hewlett-Packard Co., Cisco Systems Inc. and Microsoft Corp. Apple's profit rose 46%." - This doesn't surprise me. I've noticed a trend among friends and family, they're buying Macs. Our managers at work, who are techno-heads BTW, are getting Macs as their daily drivers. Strange but true. You can run Parallels to host your development environment in Windows, Visual Studio.Net works great and is quite zippy. Our V.P. bought one for home, purchased Parallels, and hasn't installed it because he just doesn't need it.

So, do you think Apple will purchase Parallels and make it a part of the OS, or is that too dangerous a move?

Crazy, or crazy like a fox? - [8:43 AM]

NY Daily News: "'I'll be dead when they get it right,' he said during an Oval Office meeting last week." - Is the President plain crazy, or crazy like a fox? My opinion isn't worth very much but I'll share it anyway. In my humble opinion President Bush will be remembered as one of the worst in our nations history. On the flip side there is a group of people that still believe in the President and believe he'll be as beloved as one of the greats. Only time will tell.
