Ruby Tools - [10:22 AM]

IBM: "Ruby on Rails has hit the big time. With that popularity has come the desire by developers for an integrated development environment (IDE) that makes Rails even more accessible. RadRails, a Eclipse-based environment, fulfills that need for many developers." - Note to self, checkout this toolset over the weekend.

Strange Dream - [1:53 PM]

I had a very strange dream last night. In my dream I was at a barber shop to get a haircut. I put my name on a list, sat down, and a young lady sitting at a desk says "Oh, Rob, Dave Winer is here." So I said I'd like to meet him since we've only corresponded via e-mail and through comments on weblogs. She leads me to Dave, and I say "Hi, I'm Rob Fahrni." Dave shakes my hand, smiles, turns around, and sits back down in the barbers chair...

Then my alarm went off. Doh!

Apple on the move - [10:19 AM]

The Unofficial Apple Weblog: "They were discussing the Mac market growth this quarter and remarked that Mac market growth in the US grew 31% in quarter, compared to PC market growth of 3%." - The switch is on all around me. All new orders for laptops in my group are for MacBook Pro's. Apple is definitely flying high, this past weekend I noticed 99% of the people walking around with an audio device were using an iPod or an iPod nano. Apple is taking over the world one device at a time.

Murphy's Law strikes again - [4:20 PM]

MSNBC: "With freeze conditions expected to continue, there is little hope for many of these growers. The financial losses to the agricultural industry will likely reach $1 billion, an amount that will far surpass the damages sustained in California during the freeze disasters of 1990-1991 and 1998-1999."

Tempe weekend - [7:42 AM]

What a weekend!

  • Drive from Exeter to Tempe, AZ, and back - 1300 miles
  • Games on Saturday, Sunday and Monday - 15 plus hours
  • Three nights in a hotel - $300
  • Watching your daughter pass, set, and kill a volleyball - Priceless
Our little girl's 16-Open volleyball team started their season this weekend at the Fiesta Classic at Arizona State University, home of the Sun Devils. Since this was their first tournament together they had a shaky start but played like we knew they could on Sunday and finished Monday winning one and losing one. Overall I'd say it was a great start to the season and I'm looking forward to seeing how they improve over the next six months.
